Curly Hair Challenges and Solutions

Curly hair can be a challenge at any length. The best thing you can do for your curls is keep the ends healthy by getting regular trims, and hydrating your hair daily: easier said then done depending on the season. The summer sun, chlorine, and salt water can be very drying, and the winter cold and rain can cause extra frizz and a dry scalp. A good haircut, proper products at home and proper salon care can go a long way.

Our Master Stylist, Jacqui Perron at our Kitsilano location, has 27 years experience specializing in curly haircuts and curly hair care. Having lived with curly hair her whole life, Jacqui is familiar with the challenges curls and wave can cause. Jacqui recommends a customized consultation: “Every client has their own special wave pattern throughout their hair. Texture, density, and porosity are also important facts to keep in mind when analyzing a client’s hair for the first time. ” Jacqui can walk you through a personalized home care system that will address all your hair concerns.

At Bombshell we believe hair care has come a long way in recent years, incorporating more natural ingredients and formulas to salon products. In our many discussions on natural ingredients recently with our fabulous clients, we discovered one of the “IT” topics (believe it or not) is APPLE CIDER VINEGAR. The health benefits seem endless.

As a child, I remember my Gran using an apple cider vinegar rinse on her hair. She always said it helped keep her hair shiny, smooth, and healthy. Apparently my now-94-year-old Gran was onto something! 😉

The acidity of apple cider vinegar helps maintain a natural PH level in your hair. Having a natural PH level will lessen frizz and create shine by closing the hairs cuticle. This is especially helpful for curly hair because the cuticle is typically more open than other hair types. The acids will also help remove any product buildup from the hair, allowing your curls to bounce more naturally.

  • 1/3 cup Apple Cider Vinegar to 1 liter Water
  • the amount you make/use will depend on the length of your hair – short hair 1-2 cups, long hair 2-4 cups

  1. Shampoo as usual and rinse with water.
  2. Use your Apple Cider Vinegar and Water mixture as a rinse, leave on hair for 5 minutes.
  3. Rinse with cool water.
  4. Add this to your hair care regimen once or twice a month.
